Gujarat announces 10% quota For economically backward
29 April 2016 Current Affairs: The Gujarat government has announced a 10% quota for the economically backward class from all non-reserved castes in the state in both jobs and education. A special Ordinance will be promulgated earmarking the 10% reservation on Gujarat Foundation Day, May 1.

As per the move, upper class families whose annual income is up to Rs 600,000 will have the benefits of this new move taken by the Gujarat government. The quota benefits will be available to the members of all the upper class communities, including Patidars, Brahmins, Kshtriyas and Lohana among others.

The government intends to implement this 10% quota from the upcoming academic year. Recruitment to be covered post implementation. Gujarat government followed the footsteps of two other BJP-ruled states Rajasthan and Haryana, who had announced special quotas for Gujjars and Jats respectively.
