Double Olympic champion Joanna Rowsell Shand retires
15 March 2017 Current Affairs: Double Olympic gold medallist Joanna Rowsell Shand on 14 March 2017 announced her retirement from international cycling.

Shand had won the women's team pursuit at four editions of the World Championships (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014). She grabbed the gold medal in the same discipline at the Olympic Games in London and Rio in 2012 and 2016.

The cyclist also won the individual pursuit at the 2014 World Championship.

Joanna Rowsell Shand : Born on 5 December 1988, Joanna Katie Rowsell Shand is a retired English cyclist on the Great Britain Cycling Team.She competed on track and road.

In 2004, she was picked up by British Cycling's Talent Team programme.

As a junior, she won the British National Track Championships pursuit in 2005 and 2006.In senior competition on the road, she won the 2006 British National Women's Series competition.

She represented the United Kingdom at the European and World Junior Track and Road Championships in mid-2000s.

Her greatest successes to date are the gold medals won in the women's team pursuit at four editions of the World Championships (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014).She won the gold medal in the same discipline at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 games in Rio.

She won the individual pursuit at the 2014 World Championship.She is a reigning Olympic and European champion in the team pursuit.She is reigning Commonwealth Games champion in the individual pursuit.
