Deposits in Jan Dhan Yojana accounts crosses Rs 1 lakh crore

11 July 2019 Current Affairs: The deposits in bank accounts opened under Jan Dhan scheme crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark.
As per the latest finance ministry data, the total balance in over 36.06 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts at Rs 1,00,495.94 crores
The PMJDY launched on August 28, 2014.
The main aim is to provide universal access to banking facilities to the people in the country.
The scheme launched about five years ago by the Modi-government crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark.
The total balance in over 36.06 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts was at Rs 1,00,495.94 crores.
The government shifted the focus on accounts from 'every household' to 'every unbanked adult'.
Around 50 percent of the Jan Dhan account holders are women.
The main objective of PMJDY is to ensure access to various financial services like availability of basic savings bank account, access to need-based credit, remittances facility, insurance and pension to weaker sections and low-income groups.
