15 September 2021 Current Affairs:The World Bank has published the Groundswell report. The report examines the effects of slowly occurring climate change, such as water scarcity, declining crop productivity, and rising sea levels, which will lead to millions of “climate migration” by 2050

Highlights:
♦ Unless urgent action is taken to reduce global emissions and bridge the development gap, climate change may push more than 200 million people from their homes and create migration hotspots in the next 30 years
♦ The report stated that about 216 million people will move within the country in the six regions.
♦ In the most climate-friendly scenario, with a low level of emissions and inclusive, sustainable development, the world could still see forty four million people being compelled to go away their homes.
♦ In South Asia, Bangladesh is particularly affected by crop failures and floods, accounting for nearly half of the predicted climate migration.
