12 May 2016 Current Affairs: The book titled Chaos and Caliphate: Jihadis and the West in the Struggle for the Middle East authored by Patrick Cockburn was in news in the first week of May 2016.
The book was in news because it exposes how millions of people were killed by a series of disastrous Western interventions in West Asia.
In the book, the author provides analysis of a period, in which the U.S. and its allies have persistently repeated disastrous policies that left millions dead. It draws together a careful selection of Cockburn’s writings from the frontlines of the conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria, interspersed with thoughtful analyses and contemporary, original reflection. The book starts with Afghanistan in 2001, after the September 11 attacks on the US.It also presents the author’s fear that dividing the region will repeat the horrors of Partition. However, the author does not go into the reasons why the U.S and its allies have kept repeating disastrous and destructive policies.
