Ahmedabad gets India's first World Heritage City certificate
02 September 2017 Current Affairs: Ahmedabad in Gujarat formally accorded the status of India's first World Heritage City with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bokova handing over the certificate in this regard to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Ahmedabad was selected out of 250 cities in the race for the coveted status.

India is second after China in terms of a number of world heritage properties in ASPAC (Asia and Pacific) region, and overall seventh in the world.
