56-hour gun battle in Pampore ends; two militants killed
13 October 2016 Current Affairs: Pampore, a town situated on the eastern side of river Jehlum on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir, was in news in second week of October 2016. It came in news after Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) complex located in the area was attacked by two militants. 

The terrorists had stormed into the EDI complex in the wee hours on 10 October 2016 and took positions inside one of the buildings.

The attack saw gun battle between security forces and militants that holed up the government building. The gun battle that lasted for 56-hours ended after the two militants were shot dead. Details about the slain terrorists were being ascertained but prima facie there were indications that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba.

The operation was called off after the security forces searched all the 50 rooms of the building because there were reports that three terrorists were present in the building. The operation has reduced the multi-storey building to a skeleton after many of its walls were blown up.

Pampore  : It is worldwide famous for its Saffron and is known as "Saffron Town of Kashmir".The area is about 11 km from Srinagar city centre Lal Chowk. Pampore is located at 34.02°N 74.93°E.
