Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri-Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the mega healthcare scheme Ayushman Bharat, from Ranchi, Jharkhand. Modi in his speech said that the scheme would be a “game changer” globally in health insurance.
PM-JAY is the world’s largest health scheme. It will cover around 50 crore people. The scheme will pilot in 106 districts in 14 states of the country. The scheme will be providing an annual coverage of Rs.5 lakh per family for nearly 1,350 diseases. The eligible people can avail the benefits of the scheme in government and listed private hospitals. There is no cap on family size and age to ensure that nobody is left out.
