30 January 2017 Current Affairs: President Pranab Mukherjee launched the pulse polio programme for 2017 on 29 Jan  by administering polio drops to children aged below five years at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The programme, which will cover 17 crore children under five years of age, was launched on the eve of the National Immunization Day. Health minister J P Nadda and Ministers of State for Health Anupriya Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste were present during the event.

The Ministry will soon introduce Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine that will help reduce the risk of diarrhea, pneumonia and meningitis and (launch) a countrywide campaign with Measles-Rubella vaccine in a phased manner.
