  • List of Loan Agreements Signed With Asian Development Bank

    India and ADB have signed 3 important loan agreements in various fields/projects in New Delhi. The signatories to the loan/projects Mr. Sameer Kumar Khare, Additional Secretary (Fund Bank and ADB), Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance; and Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama, Country Director of ADB’s India Resident Mission, who signed for ADB. The 3 Loan Agreements Signed between India and ADB are:  A $300 million Loan Agreement to support lending by India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL).  A $169 million loan as the First Tranche of a $500 million multi-tranche financing to develop climate-resilient water supply, sewerage, and drainage infrastructure in at least 10 cities in the State of Tamil Nadu.

    Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) at the Kalinga Stadium complex, Bhubaneswar, Odisha in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. As per the agreement, the State government will host National team camps and also I-League side Indian Arrows. The training and connected infrastructure like gymnasiums, swimming pool, etc, will be housed at the Kalinga Stadium Complex.

    Turga pumped storage hydel power project is to be constructed at Purulia in West Bengal. This project will contribute to the industrial development and living standards in the state. The deal was signed by the Additional Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), C.S. Mohapatra, and Katsuo Matsumoto, chief representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

    Oil Marketing Companies (IOCL, HPCL & BPCL) and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited signed an MOU for collaboration in LPG services.     India to hold 2 meetings ahead of Poland climate talks

    The UN climate talks are to be held in Katowice, Poland in December. But before the talks India is hosting two key meetings in New Delhi with a group of countries called the LMDC, the ‘Like Minded Developing Countries’ that includes India, China, Venezuela and Iran and BASIC, which constitutes Brazil, South Africa, India, China, which are networks that have been formed to lend weight to the concerns of the developing countries. One of these meetings, of the LMDC, was underway.

    Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and South Korea for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.  The objectives of the MoU is to expand bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels and tour operators, increase the exchange of information and data related to tourism, encourage participation in travel fairs/exhibitions in each other’s country and promote safe, honourable and sustainable tourism.

    India and Russia inked a $950 million deal for inducting two new warships equipped with Brahmos missiles in the India Navy.

    The two frigates of the Project 11356 class will be bought directly from Russia and 2 more will be built in an Indian Shipyard. The two ships to be brought from Russia are expected to be delivered by 2022 and have been designed to work with Ukraine-made gas turbines. These are under a ‘2+2’ scheme which was under the works since 2015.

    Canada agreed to sign a trade deal with the United States and Mexico, revamping the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) after almost a year of negotiations. The new deal has been named the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Under the agreement, Canada has agreed to export a quota of 2.6 million vehicles to the United States in the wake of 25% global autos tariffs imposed by the US on national security grounds.

    The agreement will enable the airlines of each side to enter into code share with airlines of other party. It will also provide greater freedom in mounting direct flights. The revised Agreement is the outcome of three meetings of delegation from two countries who had worked towards liberalization of markets between the two countries and updating of the existing Air Services Agreement.

    MoU Signed for establishing Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre in Niger

    Mahatma Gandhi International Convention Centre (MGICC) will be established in Niamey, Niger with the Indian government's grant assistance. The centre honours the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, whose 150th birth anniversary is also being observed in 2019. In response to growing request from countries in Africa, India has offered to establish Mahatma Gandhi convention centres in more than 20 countries in Africa, of which the project are being taken up in the immediate phase in nine countries. India has provided lines of credit worth USD 96.54 million for projects in transport, electrification, solar energy and potable drinking water. ♦ Niger Capital: Niamey, ♦ Currency: West African CFA franc.

    The warehouse will be constructed with an Indian grant assistance of 30 crore Sri Lankan rupees. The construction of a 5000-metric ton temperature controlled warehouse will used for fruits and vegetables to minimize its post-harvest losses.   

    Bangladesh govt approved India to use the Chittagong and Mongla seaports

    18 September 2018
    Bangladesh’s Cabinet approved a proposed agreement with India to allow it to use the Bangladesh seaports. The approved agreement will be effective for five years. The agreement would allow India to Chittagong and Mongla seaports for transporting goods to and from the northeastern States.  Only Bangladeshi vehicles may be used as freight transport to move the goods while they are in Bangladeshi territory. India must also follow GATT and Bangladeshi regulations and also pay the customs duties and buy tax equivalent bonds. Any cargos that move through Bangladesh will be monitored by a tracking system. The decision by Bangladesh is a step toward improving the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India.

    Tamil Nadu and Centre sign MoU on implementing Ayushman-Bharat with state run CMCHIS

    Haryana govt signs MoU with Indian Oil to set up Ethanol plant

    12 September 2018
    An ethanol plant will be set up in Bohali village, Panipat with an outlay of over Rs 900 crore. The MoU will be valid for one year. The proposed capacity of this ethanol plant will be of producing 100 kilolitres of ethanol per day. Paddy and Sugarcane crop residues will be supplied as raw material for this plant in cyclic manner. Purpose:- Bioethanol can be easily blended with petrol or diesel, thus making it sustainable transport fuel. It also reduces air pollution.

    India, U.S. signed COMCASA agreement

    Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) will facilitate access to advanced defence systems and enable India to optimally utilise its existing US-origin platforms. The 2+2 ministerial dialogue between the two countries was attended by U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis and their Indian counterparts Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman.

The MoU was signed between Financial Intelligence Unit, India, and Unit for Combating Money Laundering of Cyprus. Mr.Kovind and Mr.Anastasiades held discussions on issues of mutual interest, including promotion of business collaboration in the fields of IT and IT-enabled services, tourism, shipping and renewable energy. They also reviewed the ongoing bilateral and multilateral engagements and discussed issues of regional and global concern.

    NHAI to ink MoU with SBI for Rs 25,000 Crore loan

    National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is getting an unsecured loan of Rs 25,000 crore from State Bank of India (SBI) for 10 years with 3 years of moratorium on repayments. This is SBI's highest long-term unsecured loan to any entity and also the largest ever loan sanctioned to NHAI. The total sanctioned amount is to be disbursed to NHAI within March 31, 2019.

    Health Ministry signed MoU With Ministry Of Electronics And Information Technology

    National Health Agency (NHA) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the apex body for the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM), and Common Service Centres (CSC) scheme under the Digital India Programme, have signed a MoU to provide information and eligibility validation services to beneficiaries, especially in remote areas.  JP Nadda, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Law and Justice & Information Technology presided over the MoU signing ceremony.  The main benefits under AB-NHPM are based on entitlement and not on enrolment, over 3 lakh CSCs spread across rural India can become the key point of information for potential beneficiaries and help in validating their entitlement.

    As part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Uganda, India and Uganda signed four agreements on ♦ defence cooperation, ♦ visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, ♦ cultural exchange programme, and ♦ material testing laboratory. The Indian government has also decided to gift a cancer therapy machine to the Uganda cancer institute in Kampala. The Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial reception in Uganda's Entebbe town. He is on a three-nation tour to the African countries including Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.     IIPH-H to introduce Drone delivery system for medical supplies

    Indian Institute of Public Health – Hyderabad (IIPH-H) is developing a drone delivery system for medical supplies, with a temperature-controlled payload box, to be delivered to a remote village in the State without delay. The aim of the Digital Drone-based Real-Time Advanced Medical Modular Logistics system (2DREAM) project is to reach the remote areas and deliver the temperature-sensitive payload in 30 minutes. IIPH-H has partnered with the prestigious US-based Johns Hopkins University to develop the temperature-controlled vaccine box.

    The AIIMS has signed a MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, for collaboration in education, research outreach and medical services.     O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana signed a MoU with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health for an annual study programme. Nearly 30 students of Jindal Global University has taken the annual study-abroad programme at Harvard University. At the successful completion of the programme, Jindal students will earn academic credits, and the course will be reflected in the transcript.     The nodal satellites division U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed with three partners, two private and one government-run firm, to help it assemble 27 satellites at a quick pace over the next three years. The partners are Alpha Design Technologies P Ltd and its six consortium members, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, Hyderabad. A URSC official signed the agreements with the three entities in the presence of URSC Director M. Annadurai.

    Adani signed agreement with NYK Auto to run auto freight trains

    18 July 2018
    Adani Logistics Ltd. (ALL) has signed an agreement with NYK Auto Logistics (India) Private Ltd. (NALI) to form a joint venture (JV) that will specialize in the transportation of finished vehicles using automobile freight trains. The JV would participate in AFTO (Automobile Freight Train Operator) Policy of the Ministry of Railways and offer its trains for transporting vehicles across India more efficiently. The planning will commence operation with six trains. It is predicted that ALL will have 25 trains in operation in three years based on its market trends.

    Vinesh Phogat won gold at Spanish Grand Prix

    24-year-old Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat grabbed a gold in the women's 50kg freestyle category at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, by defeating Canada's Natasha Fox 10-0 in the final match. She had won a gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in the 50kg category.

    ASI has planned to upgrade seven monuments in Tamil Nadu

    The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has planned to upgrade infrastructural and tourist-friendly facilities at seven sites, which are approved under Adarsh Smarak Scheme for Conservation of Monuments, in Tamil Nadu.  The Adarsh Monuments proposed to be upgraded by the Ministry of Culture include the Shore Temple in Mamallapuram, Vellore Fort, Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, Kailasanathar Temple in Kancheepuram, Sittannavasal Caves, Gingee Fort and Moovar Koil in Kodumbalur. The work has already begun at the Shore Temple in Mamallapuram.

    India's first Defence incubators will come up in Hyderabad

    The incubator will be housed at T-Hub and will be India’s missile development centre and fast emerging the hub for aerospace industries. The incubator will be funded through the Ministry’s Innovation for Defence Exellence (iDEX) scheme. Initially, a corpus of ₹100 crore has been created by two PSUs- HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited), each contributing ₹50 crore.

    In 2018 'Soft Power 30' index, published by UK-based strategic communications consultancy firm Portland and the University of Southern California Center on Public Diplomacy, France placed second and Germany as third followed by the US. India does not figure on the list, but this year's report also features a chapter dedicated solely to Asia, listing 10 countries in the region, ranking India's soft power as eighth.

    EU and Japan signed major trade deal

    Japan and the EU signed a trade deal, as an act against protectionism, as Washington puts up barriers and threatens a trade war. The deal which is signed in Tokyo is the largest ever negotiated by the EU. It is aimed to create a massive free trade zone, eliminating tariffs for everything from Japanese cars to French cheese. The agreement is expected to enter into force in 2019.
