The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) along with the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai submitted a proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence for blockchain technology in Hyderabad to drive innovation. The technology will be used to secure land records in Telangana. After this, the C-DAC’s Hyderabad unit will be the first one by the government for blockchain technology.

U.S. wildlife officials have agreed to consider Endangered Species Act protection for a rare toad in northern Nevada. The toad was discovered in 2007 in the Dixie Valley. It is 2-inch-long with flecks of gold on its olive-colored body. Conservationist produced scientific shreds of evidence that the Dixie valley toads could be at a risk of extinction.

Odisha’s Dutee Chand set a new national record in the women’s 100m race when she clocked 11.29 seconds at the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships being held at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati, Assam. The previous record of 11.30 seconds was also set by Dutee at the Indian Grand Prix in 2017. Dutee has qualified for the Asian Games in 100m and 200m by breaching the qualifying timings at the Inter-State Championships.

Hockey India announced the 18-member Indian women’s team for the prestigious World Cup tournament to be played in London in July 2018. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) have joined hands to transform Kattupalli Port into a multi-commodity port to handle containers automobiles, break-bulk, general, liquid and project cargo. Of the total amount, Adani will be paying 97%, that is, Rs.1,950 crore and the balance 3% will be held by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government. With a backup area of 322 acres, Kattupalli port will be made into one of the most modern ports in India and be emerging as a new gateway for EXIM trade in Chennai/Bangalore region. Adani Ports is committed to making Kattupalli port one of the largest ports in southern India.

North Korea has been categorized as one of the “worst human trafficking nations” for the 16th straight year by the US State Department according to the annual 2018 Trafficking in Persons Report. The report said that the North Korean government continued to use forced labour in prison camps and labour training centers and even encouraged forced labours of students and exported forced labour to foreign organizations. North Korea used state-sponsored forced labour to fund government functions as well as other illicit activities’. North Korea has been included in the Tier 3 category, which is the lowest ranking, along with China, Russia, and Iran.

It aimed to integrate information technology for better roll out of its major social sector schemes. Poshan is an overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment launched on 8th March 2018 by the Prime Minister in Jhunjhunu. Convergence and innovative use of technology are the two major attributes of POSHAN Abhiyaan TECH-THON. CEO of Niti Ayog underlined the importance of IT in the mission. ICDS- Common Application Software (CAS) has been specially designed to strengthen the Service Delivery System as well as the mechanism for Real-Time Monitoring for nutritional outcomes.

According to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Mukesh Ambani-ledReliance Jio surpass Vodafone India as the country’s second largest operator in terms of "access service gross revenue" at INR62.2 billion ($903 million). Market leader Bharti Airtel still in No:1 with revenue of INR70.8 billion. Reliance Jio entered the Indian market in September 2016 and quickly attracted subscribers with attractive pricing and discounts that effectively provided free voice and data access.

The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is in the process of closing down nine foreign branches as part of rationalisation of overseas operations. SBI has over 190 foreign offices spread across 36 countries. Bank of India also closed down operations in Yangoon and Bostwana, while Bank of Baroda and Indian Overseas Bank shut the Hong Kong branch. In addition, PSBs have also closed down various representative offices.

After US re-imposed sanctions against Iran after it withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, India is planning to cut oil imports from Iran, and replacing them with more purchases from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. This comes after the US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley asked PM Narendra Modi to reduce India's dependence on Iran. Iran is India’s third largest oil supplier behind Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

The Export-Import Bank of India(Exim Bank) announced that it has extended USD 10 million worth of line of credit (LOC) to Seychelles for healthcare and procurement of goods and projects. It is the first tranche of the $50 million sanctioned by the Exim Bank to the country. With this agreement for $10 million, Exim Bank has extended two LOCs to Seychelles, taking the total value to $28 million.

The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi has approved to set up two more underground crude oil storages in Chandikhol, Odisha, and Padur, Karnataka to increase emergency stockpile cover by 12 days to 22 days. The announcement was made by the Finance Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. The SPR (Strategic Petroleum Reserve) facilities at Chandikhol and Padur will be underground rock caverns and will have capacities of 4 MMT and 2.5 MMT respectively.

The first-year engineering students Harikrishan, P Amarnath, G Sudhi and T Giri Prasad from Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science near Chennai built the 4cm ‘cube’ satellite 'Jaihind-1S' with a 3D printed outer casing from polylactic acid (PLA) nylon material, making it lighter than a medium sized egg, at just 33.39 grams. The satellite has been designed and fabricated for the ‘Cubes in Space’ competition conducted by Colorado Space Grant consortium, NASA and idoodle-learning. It will be flown on a scientific balloon up to an altitude of 70km. This satellite will be launched from a NASA facility in the US by August. The previous lightweight satellite developed by Rifath Sharook, also from Tamil Nadu, and launched in the same competition in 2017 had weighed 64 grams.

The King Air C90 12-seater aircraft, which took off from the Juhu airstrip on a test flight, crashed into a construction site in Jagruti Nagar area of Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Five persons were killed in this accident. This aircraft was sold by the Uttar Pradesh government to a Mumbai-based private company, UY Aviation in 2014. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a detailed probe into the chartered plane crash in Mumbai.

The placement on the grey list could hurt Pakistan's economy as well as its international standing. The announcement comes a day after Pakistan submitted a comprehensive 26-point action plan to the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) to choke the funding of militants groups, including Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led JuD and its affiliates, to avoid being blacklisted by it. The FATF is an inter-governmental body established in 1989 to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.

India has emerged as one of the top 10 countries to have registered maximum improvement in transparency in real estate over last two years, showed JLL’s Global Real Estate Transparency Index (GRETI) 2018. According to the survey, UK is at the top position followed by Australia and the US. France, Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland and Sweden are in top 10 in the list of 100 countries. Venezuela is the least transparent market with 100th rank.

Indian Naval ships INS Shakti and INS Kamorta under the command of Rear Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, undertook Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Madidihang (855) a Stingrays Class Fast Patrol Craft on leaving the Port of Makassar, Indonesia. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Indonesia last month, the two countries decided to enhance their maritime cooperation.

According to Mercer's 24th annual Cost of Living Survey, Mumbai is India’s most expensive city, followed by New Delhi and Chennai. Kolkata and Bengaluru are the least expensive Indian cities ranked. Mercer’s survey reveals that Hong Kong took the top spot as the world’s most expensive city for expatriates. Tokyo and Zurich are in second and third positions, respectively, with Singapore in fourth.

The first place was secured by Boulder city in the US while the third best location was Johannesburg in South Africa. The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) Prakash Javadekar proposed a draft bill to repeal the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of 1956 and set up the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), a move that aims to reform higher education in India. The new draft legislation comes after an earlier proposal to form an umbrella regulator– HEERA was scrapped by the MHRD in May this year. HEERA was supposed to replace all the other regulators - All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and UGC.
