The Election Commission on 8th May ordered re-polling in 168 booths of West Tripura parliamentary constituency. Tripura is the highest for any Lok Sabha constituency in the ongoing elections.
The commission declared the voting held at these polling stations void based on reports submitted by the chief electoral officer, special observer and the returning officer. The re-polling is scheduled for May 12.
The death toll in Odisha due to Cyclone Fani rose to 41. The rehabilitation is underway on a war footing in the affected districts. A team of herpetologists has described a new species of reddish-brown pit viper, a venomous snake with a unique heat-sensing system, from a forest in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. India now has a fifth brown pit viper but with a reddish tinge.
