Centre for the Development of Glass Industry (CDGI) was established at. Firozabad in India in the year 1992 as a joint venture project of Government of India, State Government of Uttar Pradesh and United Nations Development Program / United Nations Industries Development Organization. Firozabad, located at 45km east of Agra is designated as the Glass City of India, for holding as may as 421 small scale Glass units in its fold which produce large number of glass items of such diverse nature as Automobile headlamp cover, Vacuum glass refills, Laboratory & Scientific glassware, Bangles, Decorative pieces, Light shades and Chandeliers etc. Together it accounts for 70% of the total glass produced in the small scale sector in India generating employment to more than 150,000 people. CDGI thus focuses on providing Developmental and Technological Support services to the small scale industries. Its plans and policies are guided by Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
