  The previous year's question paper helps the candidates to get an idea about the question pattern and type of questions they can expect. Even by chance, the candidates can also get questions of the same kind as in the previous question paper. So candidates must not miss the previous year's question papers in their daily preparation. IAS Mains is also an offline exam. Each article will carry 250 marks. 

  • Each paper is of 3 hours. Thirty minutes are given extra to blind students.
  • The exam will contain nine papers. Candidate will be tested based on their knowledge and understanding of the subject
  • Questions will be both- objective and subjective. They will be in both Hindi and English language.
  • IAS mains exam is of two types – Qualifying Exam and Merit Exam. It is compulsory to appear in both.

  1. Paper A: (One of the Indian Languages to be selected from the ones included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution – 300 Marks)
  2. Paper B: English – 300 Marks

Eligibility for UPSC 2019

Education Qualification:

The candidates applied for the UPSC should have,

  • Bachelor's Degree in any Stream from Any Recognized University in India.
  • Master’s Degree in any stream from a recognized University in India

Age Limit:

The candidate’s age should be in between the following age limit to submit the applications for the UPSC Mains 2019.

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Maximum Age: 32 Years

There is upper age relaxation for reserved category candidates, which is as follows:

  1. SC/ST- Up to 5 years
  2. OBC- Up to 3 years
  3. Defense Services Personnel disabled in operations during hostilities- Up to 3 years
  4. Ex-servicemen- Up to 5 years
  5. ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service- Up to 5 years
  6. PwD candidates- Up to 10 years
  7. Domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir from January 1, 1980, to December 31, 1989- Up to 5 years.
