RRB Railway Group D 2018 Exam Dates Announced - Check Here:

Recently, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced the Exam Dates for Railway Group D 2018 Examination. RRB Group D 2018 exam will be conducted on 12 Aug, 18 Aug, 26 Aug, 9 Sep, & 16 September. Through this exam, RRB will fill 62,907 vacancies for RRB Group D i.e., Gateman/Pointsman/Porter/Helper & few other posts in Railway department across all regions. The admit card for Railway Group D 2018 recruitment examination will be available from 2nd August 2018.

RRB Recruitment 2018 - Exam Dates For Group C (ALP & Technicians) & Group D Posts To Be Out in June:

It is expected that the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will release the exam date for Computer Based Test (CBT) of Group C (ALP & Technician) and Group D Posts in the month of June or early July.  There is no confirmation by the Railway recruitment control Board regarding the same. Railway Protection Force (RPF) Recruitment 2018 - Notification Awaited:

RRB Railway Recruitment notification for 9,500 vacancies for RPF post in Indian Railways is expected to be released soon. Railway Recruitment Board Shortly RRB will be recruiting for 50,000 vacancies to fill the posts of Assistant Station Master (ASM) in its various zones. Though the RRB Official Notification regarding this ASM recruitment is not released yet, but will be released anytime soon. RRB recruitment 2018 - 1898 Apprentice Vacancy:

East Central Railways released  the recruitment notification for 1898 apprentice positions across Patna, Samastipur, Dhanbad, Chandaul. Those interested in applying can send the fully-filled form by February 28 (5 pm) on the official website rrcecr.gov.in. For the registration, Aadhaar card is mandatory.

Eligibility for 1898 Apprentice Vacancy:

Age Limit:
Candidate's age limit should be between 15 to 24 years. There is age relaxation for reserved category.

Educational qualification 
The candidate should have passed Matric or class 10 examination or its equivalent (under 10+2 examination system) with minimum 50 per cent marks from a recognised board and ITI in relevant trade (i.eNational Trade Certificate in the notified trade issued by National Council for Vocational Training or Provisional Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training/State Council for Vocational Training).

Railway Exam - Overview

Indian Railways owned and operated by Govt. of India through Ministry of Railways is the fourth largest railway network in the world. The staffs of Indian Railways are recruited under two categories i.e. gazetted (Group A and B) and non-gazetted (Group C and D) employees. Railway Recruitment Board does recruitment of Group B, C, and D through 21 Railway Recruitment Boards across India. Few posts of Group B are done through direct promotion from Group C. Railway Exam - Recruitment of Various Posts

Group A

Group A Officer positions are filled in by UPSC Exams. UPSC Civil Services and Combined Engineering Services are conducted for the recruitment in posts of Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Indian Railways Accounts Service (IRAS), Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Indian Railway Services of Signal Engineers (IRSSE), and Indian Railway Store Service (IRSS).

Group B

The posts of Group B are filled in by direct promotion from Group C. For some posts, the Exams are conducted by Railway Recruitment Board.

Group C and D

The recruitment for Group C and D is done via RRB under 21 Railway Recruitment Boards under the supervision of Railway Recruitment Control Board. The posts are divided into technical cadre and non-technical cadre. Recruitment is done on All India basis and the competition is not restricted to one particular zone and only the eligibility of the candidate is necessary for taking up the Exam under any zone. Since recruitment in done on larger scale, it is done under 21 RRBs.
  • Posts for which recruitment is done Group C are RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Category), RRB Technical Cadre and RPF Sub-Inspectors/Constables.
  • The recruitment of Trackman, Porter, Helper-II (Mech), Helper-II (S&T), Gr.D Engg., Helper-II (Elect), Gr. D (Store) are done through Group D recruitment.
Thus the focus of Railway Recruitment Board will be solely on Group C and D through Competitive Exams followed by Interview process and other necessary recruitment processes.

Railway Exam - Group C - NTPC

Railway Recruitment Board conducts Group C Exams for recruitment of various posts in Indian Railways. The Opening/vacancy details are given zonal wise and recruitment is done on Zonal basis. Vacancies are made based on the requirement in each zone. The posts of Group C are

Railway Exam - Group C - NTPC - Overall Exam Pattern

Group C posts for Non-Technical Popular Category (NTPC) follows different pattern based on the necessary skill set required for each post. Basically, Every post will be having Two-Stage Computer based test. Typing skill set will be required for few posts and for few other posts Aptitude test is conducted before proceeding with document verification. Railway Exam - Group C - NTPC - Current Recruitment

Indian Railways has released a large number of vacancies for the Group C NTPC cadre and the recruitment process is on the go. The vacancies were given based on zone/region and the exam was also conducted for different posts under the respective regions specified/opted by the candidate. The 1st Stage Exam (CBT) was conducted from March to May 2016. The 2nd Stage CBT was conducted in the month of January 2017. Following which Typing Skill Test and Aptitude Test were conducted on June 29, 2017, and June 30, 2017, respectively. Based on the results published, the document verification for the shortlisted candidates has started from August 28, 2017.

Railway Exam - Assistant Loco Pilot

Apart from NTPC in Group C, the Assistant Loco Pilot posts also come under Group C and the recruitment for this post is done separately. The post of Assistant Loco Pilot has a huge responsibility of transporting millions of passengers and tons of freight every day. Thus, recruitment for this post will have tests to check the required skill set and to recruit highly efficient candidates. Few required skill set are given below

Railway Exam Group C - Technical Post

The skill set required for Technical Post will be different from other Group C posts. Also, the recruitment process will also be different to acquire the suitable skill set required. Check below for the details on Technical post.
Educational Qualification

Basic qualification would be on engineering standards on Civil, Technical, and Mechanical engineering and also other similar disciplines with respect to the post.

Age limit

Age group between 18 years and 27 years

Exam Syllabus and Pattern
The Exam syllabus for Technical cadre will be in line with educational standards and the post applied for. The Written Exam will be done based on following divisions.

  • General English
  • General Arithmetic
  • Analytical and Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Knowledge
  • Questions based on educational/technical qualification related to the post.
Based on the number of candidates applied for the Exam, the exam will be conducted in single or double stage. The Exam will be of 90 minutes duration with 100 questions to be answered. Following the Written Exam, based on the requirement of posts, verbal/skill test and psychological tests are conducted. Document verification is done for candidates clearing the above stage of the test process and candidates shortlisted in document verification have to undergo medical test before being allotted for the respective posts.

Railway Exam Group C - RPF Sub-Inspector/Constables

The posts in RPF Sub-Inspector/Constables of Group C will basically have two divisions i.e. Executive Branch and Fire Service Branch. The Exam Pattern and selection procedure will be different for Sub-inspector and Constables.
Educational Qualification
Executive Branch: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from recognized University.
Fire Service Branch: Should have passed Intermediate/Higher Secondary (10+2) with Science and Sub. Officers Course or equivalent Diploma in Science or Fire Fighting
Age
Sub-Inspectors: Between 20 to 25 years
Constables: Between 18 to 25 years

Exam Syllabus and Pattern

Sub-Inspectors in Executive and Fire Service: The selection for these posts will be a three-stage process where physical fitness as the main key. The three stages are
  • Physical Fitness
  • Preliminary Efficiency Test
  • Written Test
Only candidates with specified physical fitness i.e. height, weight, etc will be selected to take up the Preliminary efficiency test. Candidates qualifying the 2nd stage will take up the written test. The syllabus for written test is given below.
  • General Knowledge: 100 marks (1 hour); Objective type questions on past/current affairs, History, Geography, Hindi, Mathematics, and Science
  • General English: 50 marks (1 hour); Questions on Grammar, Precise Writing, Correction of Sentences, Annotation of selected Paragraphs/Poems and more.
  • Essay Writing: 50 marks (1 hour); Essay on English/Hindi in 300 words.
Constables: The selection for constables will also follow a three-stage process and also physical fitness as the main key. The three-stage process is
  • Physical Efficiency Test
  • Written Test
  • Viva Voice/Interview

Candidates clearing the physical fitness will be called in for Written test and candidates clearing Written test will be called in for Interview. Final selection is made upon candidate being medically fit after the medical examination is done.

Railway Exam - Group D

The recruitment of Group D posts in Railways is done for around seven posts i.e. 

  • Trackman
  • Porter
  • Helper-II (Mech)
  • Helper-II (S&T)
  • Gr.D Engg.
  • Helper-II (Elect)
  • Gr. D (Store)
