KVPY or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a national level fellowship programme in the field of Basic Sciences, conducted by Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore. KVPY 2018 Overview:

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) was started in 1999 and is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to offer scholarships and contingency grants till pre-Ph.D level to the eligible candidates. KVPY, which is conducted by Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore, is a national level fellowship programme in the field of Basic Sciences. KVPY fellowship selection process  involves two-stages i.e. Aptitude Test and Personal Interview. Candidates who successfully clear these two stages, will be awarded the prestigious fellowship. Such candidates are eligible for direct admission in the top-notch institutes of India like the IIScs and IISERs. The KVPY exam is conducted for three streams:
  • SA: for students pursuing Science and currently in Class 11th
  • SX: for students pursuing Science and currently in Class 12th
  • SB: for students pursuing Science and currently in the first year of graduation

Fellowships:

Selected candidates will get a stipend of Rs. 5000, in first three years, which will eventually increase to Rs. 7000 in the 4th to 5th year.

KVPY 2018 Important dates:

The online applications for KVPY 2018 begun on 11th of July 2018 and the last date to fill the online application form is 31st August 2018. The KVPY 2018 aptitude test was held on November 4, 2018. Exam timing for Stream SA starts from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Candidates should report at 8:30 AM. For Stream SB/SX, the exam timings are Afternoon, 2 PM to 5 PM. Candidates should report at 1 PM.

KVPY 2018 Application Form:

The KVPY 2018 online application link is available on the official KVPY website www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in.  Candidate should upload the soft copy / scanned (digital) image (in JPG/JPEG format) of his/her recent Passport Size Photograph (less than 150 KB) and Signature (less than 80 KB). The SC/ST and PWD candidates must upload scanned copy of caste (SC and ST) and medical certificate (for PWD) in PDF format (less than 300 KB). All the applicants must pay the KVPY application fee only at the KVPY application portal, using Credit Card, ATM-Debit Card or Net Banking. The application fees for KVPY-2018 are as follows:
  • For General/OBC Category: Rs. 1000
  • For SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 500 (Bank Charges extra)

What are the Eligibility Criteria for KVPY?

For SA stream-

  • Candidates must be studying science stream in class 11.
  • They must score a minimum of 75% in mathematics and science subjects in class 10th board exams.
  • For SC, ST and PWD, the minimum required marks is 65%.

For SX stream-

  • Candidates must be studying science stream in class 12.
  • If awarded a scholarship, the candidate must secure a minimum of 60% in math and science subjects in class 12th board exams to take up the fellowship.
  • For SC, ST and PWD, the minimum required marks is 50%.

For SB stream-

  • Candidates must be studying in the 1s year of Bachelor degree in any of the Basic Science courses.
  • If awarded a scholarship, the candidate must secure a minimum of 60% in the first year of his undergraduate course to take up the fellowship.
  • For SC, ST and PWD, the minimum required marks is 50%.

KVPY Exam Pattern 2018:

KVPY Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Aptitude Test is a computer based test (CBT) ie., online mode. Multiple choice type questions will be asked from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology subjects.  The KVPY question paper is divided in two parts. In part 1 of the test, candidates are awarded +1 and -¼ for correct and incorrect answers respectively. For part 2, candidates are awarded +2 and -½ for correct and incorrect answers respectively.
