About IBPS

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (short form - IBPS) formerly known as Personnel Selection Services (PSS), is an autonomous organisation in India. In 1975, Personnel Selection Services (PSS) has been established by Government of India for the recruitment of Probationary Officers, Clerks to all public sector banks in India. This Personnel Selection Services (PSS) was later transformed to Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) in 1984, according to the insistence of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Public Sector Banks in India.

Role of IBPS

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) helps in conducting Common Written Examination (CWE) for the recruitment of

  • Clerks,
  • Probationary Officers (PO) and
  • Specialist Officers (SO)

for 27 Nationalized Banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRB) across India, once a year.

For Regional Rural Banks (RRB), IBPS conducts Common Written Examination separately for the posts of Officer Scale I, II, III and Office Assistants.

IBPS Recruitment is one of the largest and popular recruitment in India. Under IBPS recruitment process,  IBPS will make arrangements for conducting online preliminary examination, declare result of online preliminary examination, inform the shortlisted candidates about the online main examination, declare the results of the main examination and inform the shortlisted candidates about the interview for all the three above mentioned posts.

IBPS also grants its marvelous services to RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, LIC & Insurance companies and other Banks which are regular members of the IBPS society.

Since 2011, IBPS conducts Common Written Examination for Clerks, Probationary officers (PO) and Specialist Officers(SO) recruitment on behalf of 27 Nationalized Banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRB) across India.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern

Sections - English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning, General Awareness and Computer knowledge.

Total Marks - 200
Total Time - 135 mins

IBPS PO Exam Pattern

Get detailed IBPS PO Exam Pattern. IBPS PO examination is conducted in three phases namely
  • Phase - I - Preliminary Examination
  • Phase - II - Mains Examination
  • Phase - III - Interview

The IBPS PO exam pattern for prelims and mains exam is similar to that of clerks but with higher difficulty level for PO posts.

IBPS SO Exam Pattern

The post of Specialist Officers covers Agriculture Field Officer, Rajbhasha Adhikari, IT officer, Law Officer, Technical Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer as well as Finance Executives and Chartered Accountants.

IBPS examination for Specialist Officers (SO) positions is conducted in three phases namely

  • Phase - I - Preliminary Examination
  • Phase - II - Mains Examination
  • Phase - III - Interview

IBPS SO exam pattern for Prelims Exam is similar to that of clerks but with higher difficulty level for SO posts. IBPS SO Main examination will consist of questions only from Professional Knowledge.
 

IBPS Exam Notification

Every Year, IBPS releases notification for IBPS Clerk in the month of August, for IBPS PO in the months of July - August and for IBPS SO in the month of October-November.

IBPS Vacancy Details

Last Year, IBPS conducted Common Written Examination for 22,711 Clerk Vacancies, 9,456 PO vacancies and 1,607 SO vacancies. This year, we can expect huge number of vacancies for various posts.

Salary Details for IBPS recruiting Posts

  • Clerk Salary - Rs. 18,000 - 20,000
  • PO basic Salary - Rs. 35,000 - 40,000
  • SO basic Salary - Rs. 33,000 - 35,000

Eligibility Criteria for IBPS Exam

(i) Age - Minimum: 20 years; Maximum: 28 years for Clerk posts
               Minimum: 20 years Maximum: 30 years for PO and SO posts

(ii) Minimum Educational Qualifications- Graduation for the posts of Clerk, PO. The eligibility criteria for the post of specialist officer vary.

  • For IT officers - 4 year BE/B tech or similar
  • For Agriculture field officer - 4 years degree in agriculture or similar lines
  • For HR officers - any undergraduate and PG in personnel management
  • For marketing officers - 2-year MBA/MMS with marketing specialization
  • For law officers - a degree in Law
