IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection), an autonomous body, conducts Common Written Examination (CWE). IBPS has been authorized by IBA and has received a mandate from the 19 Public Sector Banks to conduct the Common Written Examination. This examination will be accepted by the nineteen public sector banks (listed below) for recruitment of different cadres.

The following nationalized public sector banks accept Common Written Examination (CWE) conducted by IBPS

Different examination is conducted by IBPS for the recruitment of different Cadres
1. IBPS CWE PO/MT for the position of Probationary Officer or Management Trainee. IBPS PO is conducted twice in a year.
2. IBPS CWE Clerk for Clerical positions. This exam is also conducted twice in a year.
3. IBPS Specialist Officer. This exam is announced from time to time and covers specialist positions in banks.
As per the procedure for recruitment, all individuals who aspire to join any of the above Public Sector Banks for any of the above cadres will necessarily be required to take the relevant Cadre CWE. Prospective candidates who wish to appear for the CWE will have to apply to IBPS after carefully reading the advertisement regarding eligibility criteria, online registration process, pattern of examination, issuance of call letters and score cards.
In all these exams, a scorecard is issued to all candidates who secure more than minimum qualifying marks in each test of the examination. The candidates can reappear in the exam if they would like to improve their score.
Each participating Public Sector Bank will independently issue a separate recruitment notification. The successful candidates are required to apply to any of the participating banks when the job openings are announced. The banks will notify vacancies as well as eligibility criteria such as age, educational qualification, and minimum CWE score. Banks may also put forward proficiency in local languages as a eligibility criteria, especially in the case of clerical cadre recruitment. Each bank will then individually shortlist candidates and carry out their own selection processes such as Interviews etc. for final selection.
CWE SCORE CARD
IBPS sends printed score cards to every qualifying candidate. The score card is sent by Registered or Speed Post at the candidate's address. Candidates must take care while filling the address in their online application as the same address is used for sending the score cards.
VALIDITY OF CWE SCORE CARD
IBPS score cards are valid for one year. The date is counted from te date of issue of the card. The candidates can appear in later examinations if they want to improve their score.
RECRUITMENT IN BANKS BASED on the SCORE CARD
Candidates who appear for the CWE will be able to check their status after the examination. Scorecards will be issued to candidates who secure minimum qualifying marks and above in each test of the examination.
Important: successful candidates in the CWE who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for jobs in participating banks. The candidates will have to send personal details as well as their CWE scores.
Each bank will conduct its own selection process. They may do the shortlisting and conduct group discussions and interviews for the recruitment. The banks issue notifications separately mentioning the eligibility and cut offs.
